Ply-by-Ply model Application in Analyses of Composite Structures by Finite Elements

  • Original language description

The stress analysis of a composite structure is mostly carried out by FE models utilizing shell elements. All composite layers are usually integrally included in element properties via homogenization and only the reference face is discretized in the model. Such process is computationally efficient, but if results at meso-scale are required, the FE model representing individual plies is necessary. The PbPModGen plug-in intended for ABAQUS/CAE created by the authors facilitates the preparation of multi-layered (ply-by-ply) FE models and enables more detailed analyses of impact damage, delamination or separation of individual layers. In this paper the PbPModGen plug-in is introduced and examples of multi-layered models application is shown.
