Smog episode occurrence in urbanized areas in the Czech Republic
Original language description
In this paper, some parameters of smog episodes caused by SO2 and PM10 in 22 stations of air pollution monitoring in the Czech Republic, are presented. Fifteen stations represent city and seven the periphery of a city. The aim of this study is a description of the frequency andduration of smog episodes in the period 1992 ? 2007 and a comparison of these characteristics between urban and suburban. It shows that in spite of the improvement in the air quality, the hazard of winter type smog in cities of the CR still exists. The probability of SO2smog occurrence is very low, but the PM10 smog appears on average 22 days a year. Smog episodes are mostly short and have only a local range. The potential conditions of occurrence and evolution of the smog situation depends on the topography and especially on local climate conditions. The results of the study show a significant difference between the course of smog in the city and on the periphery of the city.
