Detection and analysis of anomalies in brightness temperature difference field above convective storms
Original language description
This paper presents a method for detection of anomalies in brightness temperature difference (BTD) between WV and IR window bands above convective storms. This method is based on thresholding technique using thresholds depending on the dispersion of theBTD data. The detection algorithm was applied to a dataset of convective storms over Europe from season 2008. Its outputs are used to investigate the relationship between occurrences of BTD anomalies, of positive BTDs in general and stage of the storm evolution. The results indicate that the occurrence of BTD anomalies is more variable in time relative to the storm stage than the occurrence of positive BTDs in general. In addition, we show time evolutions of medians of positive BTDs and of appropriate IR window brightness temperatures for the storm on 14 July 2008 which significantly differ from such evolutions for all other storms in the dataset. We discuss possible explanation of this difference and its probable connection to the posi
