Long-term monitoring of sulphur and nitrogen balance in the small forest catchment near Observatory Kosetice
Original language description
High concentrations of sulphur and nitrogen compounds in the environment belonged among the most serious environmental problems during last decades in the Central Europe. In the Czech Republic, the emissions reached their maxima in the 80´s of the last century. Political and economic changes after the fall of the iron curtain brought a general drop in industrial production and later significant changes in the structure of the industry. These changes were reflected in reduction of sulphur emissions in the Czech Republic by almost 90% in the period 1990-2000. Nitrogen emissions drop (50%) was not as significant as by sulphur in the same period. After 2000, the decrease was not significant. Long-term integrated monitoring and research in the small forestbrook has been implementing at Kosetice Observatory, operated by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute since 1988. Completely forested catchment is located approximately 1 km from the observatory (area 0.285 km2). Stream is 250 m long a
