European NO2 air quality map for 2014
Original language description
In order to produce a more advanced European-scale map of annual average NO2 concentrations, an improved methodology accounting for land cover and road data in combination with an additional (sub)urban traffic map layer has been developed and applied successfully. On top of that, the application of the 1 x 1 km grid resolution has been moved up to the front of the full production process, instead of using it just at the final merging process-step at the end of the process. Next to the improved NO2 concentration map, a methodological improvement has been developed for population exposure estimates, aiming to better reflect the population exposed to traffic. In this paper, the methodological improvements are applied for the NO2 annual average of monitoring year 2014, where ETC/ACM Technical Paper 2006/6 described and presented these results yet using the "conventional" methodology as also used for PM10 and ozone mapping.
