Long-term evolution and trends of air quality in Europe in 2005–2016
Original language description
In this paper, we have demonstrated the feasibility of computing trends based on the spatial interpolation maps as were routinely prepared under ETC, which might offer a better spatial representativity for individual countries and regions compared to assessments based on in-situ stations, which suffer from important biases depending on the sampling completeness, uncertainties of measurements, and different strategies of measurement networks development of the various European countries. State of the art tools for the trend analysis have been developed and applied to the existing ETC maps, for the time series 2005–2016. Maps of three pollutants, i.e. PM10 (annual average), PM2.5 (annual average) and ozone (SOMO35) have been analyzed. No trend analysis for NO2 maps has been done, due to the lack of NO2 maps in six years of the twelve-year time series.
