Heatwaves (HWs) are extreme weather events defined as periods of three consecutive days in which the temperature exceeds the 90th or 95th percentile of long-term averages (Robinson, 2001; Tong et al., 2015; Xu et al., 2016). These events significantly impact air quality by increasing concentrations of ground-level ozone and particulate matter through atmospheric stagnation and enhanced photochemical reactions (Wu et al., 2019; Hou & Wu, 2014). Additionally, elevated temperatures during HWs increase the emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), such as isoprene and other terpenes, which contribute to secondary pollutant formation (Churkina et al., 2017; Papanastasiou et al., 2015).
