CHMI tools for monitoring of Czech Weather Radar Network

  • Original language description

poster on 5th Workshop on Radar Calibration and Monitoring Offenbach, Germany, 8.-10.10.2025 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) operates two C-band Doppler polarimetric weather radars Vaisala WRM 200 installed in 2015. Vaisala provides IRIS software and bitex utility which both enable radar monitoring within their scopes. However information accessible through this software is not always sufficient or suitably presented. Therefore, several in-house tools were developed for further processing of available data. Among these tools are various data processing utilities such as: stability of radar elevation during operational measurements, scatter plot of ZDR measured during bird bath scan useful for monitoring of status of TR limiters, ZDR offset monitoring, monitoring of minimum detected total reflectivity Th and Tv depending on the distance from the radar, monitoring of Zh comparison from the two CHMI radars as yet another way of monitoring potential failure of radar parts or miscalibration. Most outputs of in-house CHMI tools are available through a simple dedicated internal web page. This contribution presents above mentioned in-house CHMI tools and their graphical presentation used within CHMI. Examples of their output during standard and error conditions are presented.
