Forest Condition Monitoring in the Czech Republic, 1984-2003

  • Original language description

Economic development in recent decades resulted in high production of air polluting emissions that have negatively influenced health state in majority of forest stands. The Czech Republic (CR) has belonged to the European countries with the highest immission load and most damaged forest stands due to injurious impact of these emissions. European transnational grid of monitoring plots of International Cooperative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests called ICP Forests is one of the most important systems for strengthening efforts to control forest ecosystems state. Observations on monitoring plots include a wide range of complex investigations concerning state of forest ecosystems (assessment of crown condition, estimation of growth and yield, soil analysis, foliar analysis, assessment of ground vegetation, measurement of depositions, monitoring of meteorological parameters). Health state assessment in forest stands using the remote sensing method i
