European beech planted into spruce stands exposed to climatic stresses in mountain areas
Original language description
The forests in the Jizerské hory Mts. that were damaged and even died back through air pollution have been afforested with species more tolerant of pollution stress, building so called "substitute species stands". These stands shall now be converted intothe "target species stands" better fulfilling all desired forest functions in particular sites. In this context, beech is an important species, however prone to late frost damage. The investigation reports on young spruce stands underplanted with beech.
