Germination and emergence of stratified and non-stratified seeds and fruits of Viburnum lantana, Euonymus europaeus and Staphylea pinnata
Original language description
This paper gives the results of experiments made over 3 years (2006-2008) to determine the best stratification conditions for overcoming dormancy in the seeds of the wayfaring tree (Viburnum lantana), European euonymus (Euonymus europaeus) and European bladdernut (Staphylea pinnata). The best germination of Viburnum lantana (63-78%) was achieved in the warm-cold stratification treatment running 5 months with 2 or 3 months at 15 °C followed by 3 or 2 months at 4 °C or 3 months at 20 °C followed by 2 months at 4 °C.The results of Euonymus europaeus showed that there was no significant effect of the detergent on germination of stratified seeds (germination 64-75%). Seeds of Staphylea pinnata exposed to 6 months warm-cold stratification with 1-5 months at20 °C did not germinate until the second season after sowing (8-68%).
