Coppicing ability and biomass production of birch (Betula pendula)
Original language description
The paper presents the development of coppiced birch (Betula pendula) stand four years after cutting. Cutting was done in 7-year-old stand in three diferent terms (March, May, and July). Differences in sprout growth according to the term of cutting were significant even four years after cutting. Birches cutted before the growing season (March) or on its beginning (May) had lower number of sprouts on stumps and better height growth compared to sprouts initiated after cutting in July. Biomass production overcome biomass production of birch stand from generative regeneration at the present stand age.
