Relation between effective plant area index and the age of Scots pine stands
Original language description
Scots pine belongs to important coniferous tree species in Europe, and low demands for water and nutrients characterise it. It represents tree species occurring at extreme sites whose wider distribution is predicted with more frequent variations in climatic extremes. Thus, Scots pine becomes of immense importance under current changing environmental conditions due to its pioneer character, drought adaptability, and tolerance to higher air temperatures. In the paper, the development of photosynthetically active leaf area expressed by the effective plant area index related to the age of stands was studied. The whole study was performed in 10 fully stocked Scots pine stands in conditions of the Czech Republic.
