Silvicultural measures for improvement of soil moisture conditions below spruce and pine
Original language description
Article published in an international conference proceedins. It focuses on new silviculture conditions related to climage change in the Czech Republic. There are two dominant trees in the country - Norway spruce and Scots pine. We apply two approaches how to help: (a) conversion of monocultures to mixed stands using drought-tolerant species, and (b) thinning management reducing interception that is expected to improve soil moisture conditions. The study focuses on thinning effects in pine and spruce young stands, and on removal of spruce understory from mature pine stands on volumetric soil moisture.
