Litargus (Litargus) paraguayanus sp. nov. from Paraguay is described, illustrated and compared with a similar species L. sexpunctatus Say, 1826. The species Litargus (Alitargus) balteatus LeConte, 1856 is recorded from Argentina and Chile.
