Water for cooling system of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is taken from the Dalešice-Mohelno system of pumped storage reservoirs. Water quality development in the reservoir system is ifluenced by the whople upper part of the Jihlava River basin.The Jihlava River brings in the upper reservoir large amounts of nutrients, organic pollution, phytoplankton and bacteria deteriorating significantly the water quality in both the reservoirs and in the cooling system of NPP. The evaporation in cooling to wers causes strong concentration of mineral components (mainly nitrates and sulphates) in water discharged back to the lower reservoir (Mohelno). Thanks dilution in the Mohelno reservoir the influence of NPP on the lower part of the Jihlava River in not significant.
