An analysis of a life cycle of a product or activities is one of the most important information instruments of environmental policies. It is an optional instrument which permits an evaluation of both energy and material consumption as well as it evaluates the effects on human health and the health of the ecosystem in the representation phases of a product?s existence. In this way LCA distinguishes from other analyses such as EIA, risk rating and ecological audit, which focus on the scope and effects ofa process or a product on the environment in a certain phase of its existence. It is applied to determine negative effects of a random system (product or service) onto the environment. The information that results from the LCA method can be used in corporate marketing, eco-labelling and for the support of environment-friendly products. For its overall view of a process or product the LCA analysis is sometimes characterized as a ?from cradle to grave? analysis.

Posuzování životního cyklu výrobku nebo činností je jedním z nejdůležitějších informačních nástrojů environmentální politiky. Jde o dobrovolný nástroj, který umožňuje zhodnotit jednak spotřebu energie a materiálu a jednak dopady na lidské zdraví a zdravíekosystému v reprezentativních fázích existence výrobku.
