Isotope survey of the Danube
Original language description
The main objectives of the isotope survey were primarily hydrological, although there were also objectives related to water quality. methods to better understand the impacts of tributary inputs and mixing in the Danube, the distribution of groundwater discharge, and to provide a more complete baseline of isotope data for assessing future impacts within the Danube Basin. Isotopes can be good indicators of change because they are often sensitive to land-use or major hydro-climatic factors. In addition tobeing a hydrological tracer, 3H can also be viewed as a water quality parameter related to for example, nuclear power plant discharges. This chapter describes basic methods and results from the isotope survey.
