First records of the black bullhead, Ameiurus melas (Rafinesque, 1820) in the Czech Republic freshwaters

Original language description

The North American black bullhead Ameiurus melas (Rafinesque, 1820) is recorded for the first time in freshwaters of the Czech Republic. Its finding in the floodplain area of the Lužnice River seems to be due to fish escapees from a nearby pond aquaculture farm. However, the origin of recorded A. melas self sustaining population in the Elbe River where A. nebulosus (Lesueur, 1819) has been historically reported, remains still unknown. The occurence of A. melas especially in wetland?s areas causes a serious danger for native fish conservation. Moreover, its new reports warn us about its continuous successful dispersal throughout the European continent.

Czech description

Severoamerický sumeček černý, Ameiurus melas (Rafinesque, 1820) je poprvé detekován ve volných vodách České republiky. Jeho nález v aluviální oblasti řeky Lužnice je důsledkem jeho úniku z rybníkářské oblasti. Na druhou stranu, původ jeho výskytu, registrací jeho etablovaných populací v řece Labi, kde byl historicky dokumentován výskyt sumečka amerického, A. nebulosus (Lesueur, 1819), zůstává nejasný. Výskyt sumečka černého zvláště v aluviální oblasti představuje vážnou hrozbu ve vztahu k ochraně původní ichtyofauny. Navíc jeho nové nálezy dokladují, že se dále úspěšně šíří Evropským kontinentem.
