The Possibilities of Application of Biotests in Sewage Sludge Toxicity assessment
Original language description
The goal of the submitted work was to determine the applicability of the combination of two contact bioassays ? the acute toxicity test on Eisenia foetida and Phytotoxkit micro-bioassay on Sinapis alba ? for assessment of sewage sludge ecotoxicity. Samples were analyzed chemically for indicators of PCB, PAU, heavy metals, OCP and EOX. The permissible limits were exceeded in PAU, Hg and lead. The bioassays results showed that in sludge concentration over 50 % (seeds) and 60 % (earthworms) the 100 % mortality or growth inhibition has been observed. Concurrent application of two contact tests showed the acute toxicity on both invertebrates and plants. The evaluated sewage sludge can be considered as potentially ecotoxic.
