Evaluation of runoff propertis of small watersheds hit by regional rainfalls
Original language description
A method is proposed for an evaluation of runoff properties of small watersheds hit by flood-causing regional rainfalls. The evaluation builds on a calculation of the time-variable coefficient of runoff over the time of concentration from the measured precipitation and runoff discharge. A value of the coefficient varies with the cumulative precipitation during a flood event in a watershed. Obtained values of the runoff coefficient over the concentration time enable to recognize a threshold value of thecumulative precipitation at which the evaluated watershed gets completely saturated, i.e. at which the condition is reached that almost entire rainfall transforms to the surface runoff. Furthermore, the method enables to recognize an effect of floodplaininundation on the runoff event in the watershed. An ability of the method to evaluate flood runoff properties of small watersheds is demonstrated on case studies for four gauged watersheds in the Jizera Mountains of Bohemia.
