Occurrence of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals in river sediments in the Czech part of international area of the Odra river basin

  • Original language description

The article describes the results of the evaluation of the concentrations of relevant pollutants in the river sediments of the selected profiles of the Czech part of the international district of the Odra River Basin from 2003 to 2009. The evaluation focused on the concentrations of selected pollutants - poly-aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals - specified in the list of relevant pollutants agreed by the. From the results of the evaluation, it is apparent that in terms of compliance with the environmental quality standards suggested in NEK, the poly-cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons represent the most problematic factor for river sediments ? the indicator is the sum of PAHs and heavy metals ? nickel, lead, mercury and cadmium. Therefore, this article will deal with the evaluation of developing trends in average annual concentrations of the above-mentioned pollutants in the river sediments between 2003-2009 in the selected frontier profiles of the Czech part of the Odra River Basin.
