Original language description
The pivotal legislative document for flood management in the Czech Republic is the Act No. 254/2001 Coll. on Water and amendments to Some Acts (the Water Act). In the Czech Republic the European Directive 2007/60/ES, on flood risk assessment and management was transposed into amendment of Water Act n°150/2010 and into public notice n°24/2011, on river basin management plans and flood risk management plans. Flood protection is controlled by the flood authorities, which are (on a territorial basis), of the Water Act, responsible for the organization of flood protection; they manage and coordinate the activities of other responsible entities within the flood prevention and protection. The Water Act defines the obligations and description of the activitiesof flood authorities at all levels of flood protection during floods and also if there is no flood.
