Senolytic therapy in MASH: a potential strategy for reducing fibrosis and preventing hepatocellular carcinoma

  • Original language description

The incidence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)increases in patients with metabolic diseases with aging, driven by cumulative metabolic stress, chronic inflammation, and progressive liver fibrosis. Despite extensive research, the limitedefficacy of current therapies, have prompted a search for novel therapeutic options. An example isthe therapeutic influence of cellular senescence, which contributes not only to the development ofmetabolic diseases like MASH, but also to the associated complications. Our goal was thereforeto test the mitochondria-targeted Tamoxifen (MitoTam), a potential anti-cancer agent withsenolytic activity, on reduction of MASH and related pathologies across the age groups.
