Surface cleaning of book covering materials with PERLOZA® agent

  • Original language description

This investigation, focused on modern library collections (nineteenth and twentieth centuries), compares the results of surface cleaning by commonly used methods to the use of PERLOZA® as cleaning agent. All the cleaning methods selected for comparison work in situ, without having to remove the covering material. The three most common covering materials tested were paper, textile, and leather. A systematic evaluation of both the process and the results was carried out on the basis of measurement of the total colour difference, ten-point mean surface roughness, and microscopic observation of surface structure of the treated materials.
