Original language description
The sword always held a pre-eminent position in Japanese weaponry. After the wearing of swords was banned in Japan in the second half of the 19th century, they became sought-after collectors' items. The sword guard (tsuba) was particularly popular, beingsufficiently small to be suitable item for collecting. In the collection of a collector Joe Hloucha (1881 ? 1957), the sword guards are only a small part ? 77 items in the whole set. An article evaluates quality of a sword guards from Hloucha's collection, and describes their decorative symbols. The article is followed with a catalogue of all 77 sword guards ? all the sword guards are photographed from the both sides.

Czech description
Meč měl mezi japonskými zbraněmi vždy výsadní postavení. Po zákazu nošení mečů v druhé polovině 19. století se tyto staly vyhledávaným sběratelským artiklem. Mečová záštita (tsuba) se stala velmi oblíbenou pro své malé rozměry a detailní zpracování. Ve sbírce Joe Hlouchy (1881 ? 1957) tvoří mečové záštity jen malou část ? v celé jeho sbírce je jich celkem 77. Článek hodnotí kvalitu těchto záštit a popisuje jednotlivé dekorativní symboly. Článek je doplněn katalogem všech 77 mečových záštit ? všchny jsouvyfotografovány z obou stran.
