Original language description
Gerontic growth stage of the Lower Devonian oncocerid Hercoceras Barrande, 1865 shows a markedly constricted aperture, an unusual feature among Devonian coiled nautiloids. The shape of the aperture is highly variable within the species and in addition tothe general morphology of the shell it indicates a nectobenthic mode of life.

Czech description
Gerontická růstová stadia spodnodevonského onkocerida Hercoceras Barrande, 1865 vykazují nápadně zúžené ústí, znak, který je u devonských nautiloidů se stočenou schránkou neobvyklý. Tvar apertury je u tohoto druhu vysoce variabilní a spolu s celkovou morfologií ukazuje na nektobentický způsob života.
