One of the largest skeletal series of the Upper Palaeolithic period from Předmostí was destroyed during the Second World War. The discovery of Matiegka?s original photographic documentation on glass plates gives an opportunity to perform a new and detailed craniometric analysis of five adult skulls in their lateral projection. The aim of the study was above all to monitor the skull shape as a whole, but predominantly, to evaluate the size and shape of various parts of the splanchnocranium. The analysisincluded also morphological and dimensional comparisons with current Central European norms. This study confirms the main diachronic changes between skulls of Upper Palaeolithic and present-day human populations.

Czech description

Ačkoliv byla jedna z největších kosterních sérií svrchního paleolitu - Předmostí u Přerova - zničena během 2. světové války, její studium není uzavřeno. Vedle publikací se zachovala Matiegkova originální fotografická dokumentace ve formě skleněných negativů. Ta umožnila detailní kraniometrickou analýzu pěti lebek v laterální projekci. Cílem příspěvku byla tvarová a velikostní analýza splanchnokránia včetně srovnání s recentní středoevropskou normou. Studie potvrzuje hlavní diachronní změny lebky člověkaod období svrchního paleolitu po současnost.
