A taxonomic review of the Callirhipidae (Insecta: Coleoptera: Elateriformia) of the Afrotropical region

Original language description

Only two species of the family Callirhipidae have been described from the Afrotropical zoogeographical region. Callirhipis philiberti Fairmaire, 1891 from the Seychelles is redescribed based on the type specimen and recently collected material. A study of the type specimen of the enigmatic Madagascar species C. hovana Fairmaire, 1901 revealed, that it is in fact a member of the family Elateridae, and is conspecific with Hemiopinus hildebrandti Fairmaire, 1883. Therefore C. hovana syn. nov. is here regarded as a junior subjective synonym of H. hildebrandti. The presently known distribution of the family Callirhipidae in the Afrotropical zoogeographical region is briefly discussed.

Taxonomická revize čeledi Callirhipidae (Insecta: Coleoptera: Elateriformia) afrotropické oblasti

Czech description

Pouze dva druhy čeledi Callirhipidae byly popsány z afrotropické zoogeografické oblasti. Callirhipis philiberti Fairmaire, 1891 ze Seychel je redeskribován na základě studia typového exempláře a recentně chytaného materiálu. Studium typu madagaskarskéhodruhu C. hovana Fairmaire, 1901 ukázalo, že se ve skutečnosti jedná o zástupce čeledi Elateridae a je shodný s druhem Hemiopinus hildebrandti Fairmaire, 1883. C. hovana syn. nov. je tedy považován za jeho mladší subjektivní synonymum. Rozšíření čeledi Callirhipidae v afrotropické oblasti je stručně diskutováno.
