More valuable than originals? The Plaster Cast Collection in the National Museum of Prague (1818-2008): its History and Predecessors
Original language description
The first monographic article describes the collection of more than 1500 plaster or sulphur casts from the National Museum (the most important in Czech Republic). It characterizes groups of objects from models of monuments or busts, through casts of destroyed parts of architecture to copies of medals, gems (dactyliothecas), and other reliefs. The research is concentrated to the origin, authors and donors, as well as to the history of collecting of art in Bohemia from the Middle ages to the present.
