1901 Photographs of Seoul by Enrique Stanko Vráz and other early Czech traveller´s view of Korea
Original language description
Korea, however, due to its protracted period of self-containment, remained for a long time off the explorers´ beaten track. Only in the early 20th century did a handful of Czech travellers reach its shores, of whom only one left behind a wealth of photographic materials documenting life in Korea in the year 1901. The man was Enrique Stanko Vráz (b. Apr. 18, 1860; d. Feb. 20, 1932). Enrique Stanko Vráz was probably the first Czech traveller ever to visit Korea, and during his stay there took several dozen photographs, including both negatives and positives.
