Propolis rhodoleuca (Leotiomycetes, inc. sed.) compared with P. farinosa, P. occulta sp. nov. and P. strobilina

  • Original language description

Three species of Propolis inhabiting Pinus cones (P. rhodoleuca, P. occulta, and P. strobilina) and one species known from wood (P. farinosa) are compared, briefly described and illustrated. Propolis rhodoleuca is a species differing from P. farinosa. Anew character, length to width ratio of the ascospores, is used for the delimitation of Propolis rhodoleuca from P. farinosa. Names which were, for practical reasons, temporarily listed as synonyms of Propolis farinosa are evaluated according to their protologues or published revisions, and synonyms of P. rhodoleuca are selected. Propolis rhodoleuca ss. Rabenhorst, Fungi europaei, no. 1316, is described as P. occulta sp. n. It differs from Propolis rhodoleuca in ascospore length, colour of dried apothecia and substrate preferences. An isotype of Propolis strobilina was studied. Its ascus and ascospore sizes do not fall within the range established for P. occulta. A difference is also noted in the colour of dried apothecia and perhaps in
