Original language description
After the collapse of the Roman Empire the production of glass continues in the East in the line with Roman tradition. Sassanian workshops produce most of thick walled vessels from a cut glass. The glass industry thrives also in the first years of the Islamic rule; in addition to the decorative motives known from earlier period new shapes appear (e.g. omom, ewers with beak-like a spout) and also new decorative elements like spirals, arcades, arches, circles, etc.
