Unusual imitations with the name of Alexander III of Macedonia
Original language description
This article is focused on four coins without archaeological provenance: two 1/4-staters (nos. 1-2), one silver stater (no. 3) and one tetradrachm (no. 4). The head of Athena with a Corinthian helmet is always on obverse, and standing Nike on reverse (there is a horse-rider to left on the reverse of the tetradrachm). There is the name of Alexander in a faultless form mentioned on all reverses of the presented coins. The coins are classified as Celtic, but more likely, they represent non-Greek imitations produced possibly somewhere at the Balkan Peninsula, evidently during the first half of the 3rd century BC.
