Description of the Larva of a Hygropetric Agraphydrus (Coleoptera, Hydrophilidae, Acidocerinae)
Original language description
The larval morphology of a hygropetric Agraphydrus species is described based on a third instar larva collected on a wet rock surface in central Taiwan. It may belong to A. politus (Hansen, 1999), A. decipiens Minoshima, Komarek et Ôhara, 2015 or A. insidiator Minoshima, Komarek et Ôhara, 2015, whose adults were all collected together with the larva. The morphology of the larva largely corresponds to Agraphydrus larvae previously described from sides of streams and from river estuaries at the seacoast. This morphological uniformity of the larvae stands in contrast to the morphology of adults which is modified as a result of the habitat in which these species occur, to the extent that estuarine and hygropetric Agraphydrus species were originally placed in separate genera.
