Database of Musical Instruments in the Collection of Czech Museum of Music

  • Original language description

In the holdings of the National Museum - Czech Museum of Music, there is a remarkable collection of musical instruments that has come to be known as the "Buchtelinum". This is a set of musical instruments donated to the museum in the latter half of the 19th century by Antonín Buchtel, Dean of Kyšperk (today Letohrad). Many of these instruments are among the most prized holdings of the museum, and together with other rare objects, they have constituted and still constitute the foundation of the museum's permanent exhibition. Many of the instruments have been examined and discussed in print separately several times because in some cases these truly are some of the rarest and most interesting objects in the museum's instrument collection, but it has only been in recent years that the Buchtel collection has received attention as a whole, and a comprehensive evaluation is taking place only now within the framework of writing a monograph and this database. The collection contains a relatively broad spectrum of types of instruments (chordophones, aerophones, and idiophones).
