Original language description
Jaroslav Šulc (21 October 1903 to 20 May 1943) was a Czech paleontologist. He worked for several years as an assistant at the Department of Paleontology of the Czech University in Prague, and later he was a private researcher. He collaborated with many scientists all over the world. He specialized in foraminifera, otoliths and other small fauna of the Mesozoic and Tertiary. Immediately after the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia he joined the resistance activities, was arrested in 1940, and after three years of imprisonment was executed in Berlin Plötzensee on 20 May 1943. During his imprisonment he did not betray his convictions and saved several lives.
