Chinese or Western. A Few Observations on the Works of Some Twentieth Century Chinese Painters Housed in European Collections
Original language description
The article focuses on the art of several modern Chinese painters against the background of the collections of their paintings in Europe. It involves the study of several European collections of modern Chinese painting, namely those housed in France, Great Britain and Czech Republic. It analyzes the works of several modern Chinese painters, who stand in the centre of the process of encounters and acquaintances between the Chinese and the Western art worlds in the inter-war period and compares their works housed in different European collections. Simultaneously, it discusses the way these collections were formed and the means by which the discussed works got into these collections. The article aims, on the one hand, at a more detailed description of thenature of the European collections themselves, while on the other hand it contributes to our understanding of the intricate nature of the oeuvre of the painters discussed.
