Japanese Woodblock Prints and Collection in the Czech Lands
Original language description
This monograph presents the tradition of Japanese woodblock print collecting at the turn of the twentieth century and covers a diverse social spectrum of collectors of this particular art form, who helped to increase contemporary awareness of Japanese culture. Thanks to them notable sets of Japanese woodblock prints have been preserved in public collections to the present day. The publication focuses on presenting the profiles of individual collectors as well as a selection of the most interesting woodblock prints from their original collections, thus drawing attention to the options available for collecting and limitations given by market availability, expert knowledge, or personal taste.
