Collective bilingual monograph with three interconnected essays on the semantic aspects of the Icarus and Phaeton mythological pair and forms in the modern technological age. For the first time in the Czech Republic, a comprehensive overview of Icarus and Faeton themes in the context of European modern art with an emphasis on the social role of the artist and the related Icarus artistic self-identification. The theme is traced across various contexts from the Icarus rise of Renaissance emblems through the heroic humanism of interwar aviation to the Daidal skepticism of Czech art behind the Iron Curtain.
