The main objective of the submitted work is to study the effect of reaction conditions on phase composition and colour parameters of Pb2Sb2O7 and PbSb2O6. These substances are the most often identified in composition of a historical pigment known as Naples yellow. The conditions of the calcination process as well as a molar Pb:Sb ratio were found to significantly influence the quality of multiphase Pb2Sb2O7 product. Colour parameters of the products were compared with three commercial samples of the Naples yellow. The white powder of PbSb2O6 was synthetised in high purity in an opened tube furnace by calcination in two steps. The recommended calcining temperature of the first step is 600 °C with duration time of 12 hours and the temperature of the second step should be 850 °C for 72 hours.
