Distribution of PET radiotracer [11C](+)McN5652 (inhibitor of serotonin transporter) in rats

  • Original language description

Impaired serotonin transmission has been implicated in the pathophysiology of several psychiatric diseases. Drugs that inhibit serotonin transporter; SERT (citalopram, fluoxetin, etc) are important in treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive behavior or anxiety. The most frequent radiotracer for SERT has been considered [11C](+)McN5652. Until today only few radiotracers for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging have obtained marketing authorization, none of them is SERT ligand. In this study we present whole body and brain biodistribution data of [11C](+)McN5652, which has been manufactured and released by NRI Rez plc. The accumulation of radioactivity in the cerebellum was lower in comparison with the SERT-rich regions. In brain, the highestradioactivity was found in frontal cortex, hemispheres and pont. The [11C](+)McN5652 is excreted by urine. In our study we show, that [11C](+)McN5652 is specific SERT radiotracer.
