• Original language description

Parental influence on romantic attraction has recently been extensively studied. Parental effects on mate preferences and choices may be the consequence of various processes, such as heritability of preferences, parents' active involvement in mate choice (e.g., Apostolou, 2007), and imprinting-like effects. According to Bereczkei, Gyuris, Koves, and Bernath (2002), positive imprinting-like effect is a genetically canalized learning mechanism, through which individuals during a sensitive period of ontogeny develop a template of their close relatives and consequently in adulthood prefer and/or choose mates who resemble their parents or other close individuals
