Radiosurgery for Ocular Disorders: Other Indications
Original language description
Patients suffering from uveal melanomas were the first cases of ophthalmic disease to be treated by this method. However, it appears that the potential of radiosurgery to effectively treat ophthalmologic disease is wider and, besides uveal melanomas, the current spectrum of treated conditions includes eye metastases, advanced glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, hemangioblastoma, pseudotumors, and vegetative pain. Radiosurgery of ocular disorders depends on close cooperation with ophthalmologists who are decisive in determining whether radiosurgery is indicated and in the follow-up of the patient, and they also participate in the treatment procedure.
