In this contribution the author briefly discusses some facts, which motivated his studies and subsequently also his work in the Institute. In his reminiscence he outlined the nature of the activity of the Institute in the field of theoretical, physical and satellite geodesy in particular. In the section concerning the studies in geodesy he stressed the importance of mathematics for deeper insight into problems of geodesy. The author also mentioned his beginnings and latter also his part in the activities of the international scientific cooperation. In this way the comments by the author make the spirit of the time passed and also the present state closer.

V tomto příspěvku se autor ve stručnosti zmiňuje o některých skutečnostech, které motivovaly jeho studium a následně práci v ústavu. Ve své vzpomínce nastínil charakter činnosti ústavu, zejména v oblasti teoretické, fyzikální a družicové geodézie. V části o studiu geodézie zdůraznil význam matematiky pro hlubší pochopení geodetických problémů. Autor se také zmínil o svých začátcích a pozdější účasti v aktivitách mezinárodní vědecké spolupráce. Autorovy poznámky tak přibližují uplynulou dobu i současný stav.
