Original language description
Set of topographic sections of the third military mapping at the scale of 1 : 25,000 is an important cartographic source depicting the development of the landscape and the settlement of Slovakia. Based on them, we can study the development of the landscape over time and model the reconstruction of the historic landscape. They can be used in various scientific and technical fields. The aim was to transform the topographic sections of the territory of Slovakia, which would be made available on the Internet to the professional and general public through a web map service. Scanned black-and-white topographic sections at the scale of 1 : 25,000 from the archives of the Topographic Institute in Banská Bystrica were used for the transformation. Applied was composed transformation using identical points to locate them into the current coordinate system of the the Uniform Trigonometric Cadastral Network. Based on control points, we performed the analysis of the accuracy of the transformation of raster images of topographic sections of the third military mapping. Making available the raster mosaic of topographic sections of the third military mapping of the territory of Slovakia on the map portal of the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority of the Slovak Republic through a standardized web map service represents a contribution leading to increasing their usability for practical applications and simplified digital accessibility for the public.
