New neritopsoidean gastropods (Neritimorpha) from Late Triassic (late Carnian-early Norian) of the Wallowa terrane, northeastern Oregon.

  • Original language description

Five new neritopsoidean gastropods, Weitschatopsis pulchra sp. nov., Neritopsis (Wallowiella) vallieri sp. nov., Bandelopsis oregonensis sp. nov., Nuetzelopsis tozeri sp. nov., and Nuetzelopsis orchardi sp. nov., are described from the Martin Bridge Formation of northeastern Oregon. These species come from late Carnian or early Norian age strata of the Spring Creek locality in Hells Canyon (Wallowa Mountains, Wallowa terrane). The new generic taxa, Weitschatopsis gen. nov., Neritopsis (Wallowiella) subgen. nov., Bandelopsis gen. nov., and Nuetzelopsis gen. nov., are placed in the subfamily Neritopsinae GRAY, 1847 (Neritopsidae, Neritimorpha). Species of the genus Bandelopsis are also known from the Late Triassic of South America and Europe, and those of Nuetzelopsis from the Late Triassic of Europe. Their widespread distribution seems to be best attributed to their relatively long-lived planktotrophic larval stage, allowing them to be relatively well dispersed
