Two major structures were distinguished in the area north of San Salvador.The first one is WNW-ESE to E-W trending back-arc graben with NNW-SSE oriented extension and dextral strike-slip movements. Second major structure is N-S trending graben characterized by a subsidence of the eastern Guazapa block with respect to the western Cinotepeque area. N-S oriented normal faults evidence E-W extension, which is well-known in Central America.

V severní části San Salvadoru byly rozlišeny dvě hlavní struktury. První je ZSZ ? VJV až V-Z tendence back-arcu s extenzí k SSW-JJV a dextrálním strike-slipovým pohybem. Druhá hlavní struktura je S-J tendence back-arcu , charakteristická subsidencí východního bloku Guazapa s ohledem na západní území Cinotepeque. Zlomy S-J korespondují s V-Z extenzí, která je známa z celé Střední Ameriky.
