Late Proterozoic to Early Palaeozoic platform deposits of Southern Moravia (Czech Republic)

  • Original language description

Integrated sedimentological and palaeontological study of drill cores of platform siliciclastic sediments of the southernmost part of Brunovistulicum (S Moravia) shows a convincing evidence for the Cambrian age of a considerable portion of the sediments.Well-preserved organic-walled microfossils of the Late Proterozoic (Ediacaran ) age have been found. Thirty genera characteristic for the Ediacaran have been ascertained. Certain portion of the siliciclastic sediments on S Brunovistulicum is Devonian inage. The studied platform sediments are considered to have the same source area but the degree of maturity of Devonian clastics is generally higher in comparison with the older sediments. The facies analysis points to the predominance of deltaic settings (braided and fan deltas); similar sedimentary environments are presumed both for Ediacaran/Cambrian and Devonian. Palaeogeographically, the Palaeozoic sedimentary record shows affinities of the Brunovistulicum with the Małopolska Massif

  • Czech name

Pozdně proterozoické až raně paleozoické platformní sedimenty na jižní Moravě.
