Ilmenites from the Tertiary deposits of the Relict between Rakovník and Velká Černoc(so called Hlavačov gravels), Central Bohemia, Czech Republic

  • Original language description

Tertiary fluvial sediments in the area between Rakovník and Velká Černoc contain mostly ilmenites as heavy fraction. Chemistry of ilmenites showed a significant variability: pure ilmenites, Mg enriched ilmenites, Mg and Fe enriched ilmenites, Mn enrichedilmenites and trellis ilmenites. Coexisting phases in altered ilmenites were discovered: ilmenite plus pseudorutile, pseudorutile, pseudorutile plus rutile. Alterations textures of ilmenite grains depend mostly on chemical composition of ilmenites - Mgloss is evident in Mg enriched ilmenites and mostly around the rims of grains and along the fissures.
